The Flower

In high summer, when the heat makes most other flowers close their petals, bee balm stands tall. Its shaggy scarlet blooms appear in dense clusters atop square stems, each flower bristling with tubular petals perfectly sized for a hummingbird's bill. The plant's minty fragrance fills the air, attracting not just hummingbirds but butterflies and bees. By July and August, when many other nectar sources have faded, bee balm becomes a critical refueling station.

The Science Behind This Variety

Bee Balm is the most scientifically characterized of the four Nectary flowers. Researchers have analyzed the real nectar chemistry of Monarda didyma and published their findings. This summer formula is backed by that research — we've included trace amounts of sodium because the studies show hummingbirds need it, especially during the energetically demanding summer breeding season. Like all Nectary mixes, there's no red dye, just the nutrients hummingbirds actually use.

What's Inside

Sucrose, glucose, fructose, trace amino acids, trace electrolytes including sodium. No red dye. No artificial anything. 8 oz powder makes 1 quart of nectar.

How To Use

Add 1 scoop (included) to 2 cups of water. Stir until dissolved. Fill your feeder. Refrigerate any unused portion. Change your feeder every 3-4 days, or more often in hot weather.
